Some of the really good hotels and apartments that we have stayed at and that we can recommend

  • Hong Kong:  Our first stay in Hong Kong was Harbour Plaza Resort City and we have continued to stay there over the years.  Not sure of the stars but think about 4 star.  Excellent in every way. Two towers and shopping centres underneath surrounded by parks, sports fields, schools and high rise apartments a Chinese suburb. About 40 minutes from the airport and Hong Kong in the Western New Territories at Ginza-Tin Shui Wai.  Light rail at the front door and air conditioned double decker bus across the road.  Dedicated airport bus available at reception.  Considerably cheaper than Hong Kong or Kowloon
  • China:   Yangshuo on the Li River Southern China. Yangshuo Riverview Hotel 2010.  I think about 5 or 7 nights.  Wonderful position looking straight out on the river and handy to all shops restaurants etc.  Great staff and a great breakfast
  • Beijing China:  RJ Brown Hotel very close to Temple of Heaven and a short bus ride to Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City.  We've stayed there 3 times and although it seems to change a bit each time we find it a great mid to higher budget hotel with excellent staff and comfortable rooms.
  •  Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam:   Rex Hotel.  Quite an iconic hotel favoured I think by American officers during the American Vietnam War.  Very central and a pleasant place to stay in 2009.
  • Warsaw Poland:  Wawabed bed and breakfast I think considered to be 5 star and in 2016 they tell us the only B & B in Warsaw.  A little way out of town by taxi or bus but truly an excellent place to stay.  Family owned and run with breakfast, lunch and dinner and fully licenced.
  • Athens:  Apollo Hotel on the main train line from the airport.  Not sure of the stars but very reasonably priced and comfortable.  Close to all the major historic sites and the rooftop bar and restaurant looks straight across to the Akropolis.  Stayed there twice.

  • Pompeii Italy:  Beb and Breakfast Domus Lucius.  Great hosts and their little restaurant is downstairs.  Just loved this place. Great little apartment but the kitchen and bathroom could do with a reno.  Just across the road from Ancient Pompeii and a train ride to Naples, Sorrento and bus to Vesuvius and Herculaneum.
  • Rome Italy:  50MQ Nel Centro Storico Di Roma.  Excellent host.  Great apartment with a very extensive kitchen and good sized bedroom.  Great position in the old town just across the river from the Vatican and good walking distance to all major sites.  Loved it wouldn't hesitate to stay again.  Note very old building no lift but no problem to us.
